The Dragon of an Ordinary Family

In my humble opinion, one of the most important hip hop albums to be released this year. This is not to dismiss the MFTC archives, however the Dragon, without doubt marks the renaissance of the genre more than any of its contemporaries. After a spell of UK tours and a shrewdly executed viral campaign, Jehst took all by surprise with the release of 'Starting Over', duping the internet community into believing he'd took up a career as a postman, the masterpiece could not have dropped at a more imperative time. Despite a long stretching period of obscurity, the once Huddersfield lad is living proof that you can't keep a good rapper down. The track I refer to is one of my favorites from the album as I feel it sums it up, carrying forward the theme of 'People Under The Weather'. Deep, powerful and typically Jehst, the album is a classic and a landmark in subculture. If you haven't bought it yet but enjoyed the earlier stuff, this takes the best elements of his previous records and surpasses them. A truly seminal work.

Outlook Festival 2011

Managed to get a prime spot right outside Fort Punta Christo, evidenced by the sign beneath which the piece sits. Notice the end of the 40 ft Siren piece behind the fencing in the background. The festival was a huge success with much respect to Simon and Johnny for pulling it off - it was emotional.

A Dedication to Style Wars

Based on the theme of style wars, the production seemed to have had lost steam before completion. 'This iz it' is what the first piece says with the characters Iz the Wiz and Dondi in the left and middle. Whilst walking through town my friend and I bumped into Spymad and Magic in a nearby beer garden. They told us about the production that had been painted, and said to feel free to add something to the unfinished space. Despite not being with them when they painted, I felt it appropriate to help to finish the job. Click here to see the full photo.

A big thank you to everybody who helped to get the votes up on facebook. Channel 4 certainly did a good job of getting us to do their promotion for them! Have encountered some quality artists over the course and has been a good experience - apologies for spamming everybody. Received a pleasant surprise today when upon browsing the net for photos of the weekends festivities, practically the first image I happen across is a close up of my piece in the headline of the BBC website. Although a little too close for comfort, with the shot cropping out the name and website address, a glimpse of fame nonetheless! See the BBC news page here.

Near completion- Giant mermaid, hall of fame, Halifax. Nearly maimed myself reaching the high spots on this one, but I suppose the danger adds to the fun. Surprised that no smack heads tried to rob me in the time it took.

The Long and Winding Road

Definitely a collaborative effort, the wall took a good few weeks to create in the flurry of festival season. Special thanks to my Dad for realizing the idea and also to the Layup for saving the day with the odd cans in times of despair. A fortunate turn for the beginning of Vaportrails. One Last Hope

In my eyes probably the most underrated Disney film, and the last feature directed by Ron Clements and John Musker before Disneys standards fell off. When animation meets Greek mythology, you can do no wrong in my eyes. A classic story in its own right (despite total deviation from the myth), Hercules has some awesome style, great characters and as with most animated films, the music is what makes it.

This building seems to have become a motif in my sketchbooks. Inspired by the Lloyds building in Halifax town centre, the inscription means 'new beginnings' in Latin. To me this drawing represents wiping the slate clean after a bad few years of picking up the pieces of broken dreams.
